The Markgräflerland’s climate and geological conditions are especially suited for growing the wine varieties Gutedel and Nobling. These specialties of Markgräflerland account for almost 50 percent of our total wine growing area.

The white wine varieties Weissburgunder (White Burgundy) and Grauburgunder (Grey Burgundy) and the red wine variety Spätburgunder (Late Burgundy) belong to the same family of grapes and are among the typical wines of the Baden area. These grapes account for 35 percent of our total wine growing area.

In the remainder of our wine growing area we cultivate the white wine varieties Müller-Thurgau and Gewürztraminer and the red wine variety Regent.

Ripe grapes with well-balanced ingredients are absolutely essential for wines that are high in quality. Our family nurtures these conditions by working proactively. All agricultural measures before and during the growing period are adjusted to meet our high quality standards.

Through selective cutting we influence the growth and efficiency of the vine which in turn improves the character of the future wine. During the growing period we strive to achieve a consistent and balanced foliage to ensure an ideal microclimate. In late summer we reduce the number of grapes per vine to achieve the highest possible quality.

Achievement of optimum quality requires both skilled work and the balance of the vineyard’s ecological conditions. Compost and other organic fertilizers result in the optimal soil conditions. Mixtures of seed also produce nitrogen that nourishes the subsoil, produces humus, and improves the soil’s water and oxygen supply to the plants.

All our grapes are continually checked visually and tasted to determine the perfect harvest time. From pruning to harvesting, skilled hands tend our grapes to produce the highest quality wines.
